Student Body President Updates
Any informational releases from the Student Body President will be posted here.
Hey y’all! We hope each of your semesters is off to a fantastic start! Student Government is getting back into the swing of things as well! We started serving a few weeks back by helping BU28 move into their residence halls during Move2BU! We loved meeting this new class entering their freshman year here at Baylor! It is always encouraging to see all of our new Baylor Bears eager to move in and start their new journey at Baylor! It reminds us what we are here for: to serve and share this loving community we strive for here at Baylor!
Another exciting thing happening for Student Government was our first All Student Government meeting for the school year! This meeting was a special one because we got to hear from Dr. Villegas! He taught us about some bridge-building exercises that make great leaders. This word is very polarizing and not a lot of people are willing to admit their faults or listen to one another. During these exercises, we worked on being silent while our peers we speaking and listening to them by using nonverbal communication. Some nonverbals we used were engaging in eye contact, not looking at our phones while the other person was talking, and nodding to show we were taking in the information that they were saying. Simple things like these can improve your relationships with your peers but also affect how you treat someone you do not know. Listening is such an important thing that we all try to do, but usually, we are not fully listening to someone when they are speaking. We are very all about me society, if it does not directly benefit us we do not seem to care. We can make a difference in the communities by putting our selfish desires away and listening to each other.
We also have Freshmen Elections coming up for Student Government! Student Government is such a great opportunity to not only meet new people but also make Baylor a better place for your peers, yourself, and future Baylor Bears! Student Government is a place that allows you to do some pretty cool things for your community as well. This organization has made so many positive changes in so many lives! If you are on the fence about joining reach out or come to a senate meeting on a Thursday night to see how everything works! These meetings are public, so anyone can come!
Lastly, we were at Late Night! It was so much fun tabling and meeting so many of you! We always love showing up and being present in the Baylor community! By tabling we were able to show many of you how Studnet Government is not just any organization, we are problem solvers who try to make Baylor a better place for people like you!
Bears Vote! Baylor Student Government, Baylor Ambassadors, and Black Student Union have partnered together to foster civic engagement across campus while providing clear access to Baylor students eligible to vote in the upcoming Presidential election. This initiative will take place across campus on September 17 (National Voter Registration Day) and October 7th (the final day to register to vote in Texas). From 11 a.m. To 2 p.m. on these days, volunteers will be working tables located across campus in high-traffic areas. These tables will aid members of the Baylor community by informing them on how to register in-state or out-of-state, providing voter information to prepare students for the November election!
